How do I know if my car is due for a service?

Most cars are serviced every 6 or 12 months, depending on manufacturer's requirements.  There is usually a sticker on the top right hand side of your windscreen which shows the date or km's that your next service is due.  Take note of these and whichever is the closest is the one to use ie you may be a month away from the date of next service, but if your odometer reading is near or at the km noted, your car is due for a service .

If you don't have a windscreen service sticker, check your vehicle log-book.  It will tell you when your vehicle is due for a service.

How do I know what service is due on my car?

Your vehicle log-book is a valuable source of information.  You should always keep your log-book in your glove box for easy access and so the mechanic can stamp it to show your vehicle has been regularly serviced.  This is a valuable piece of information if you ever want to sell your car as the buyer can see that you have been looking after the vehicle with regular servicing.

GO Automotive services will stamp your log-book and update the details after each service.

Why should I service my car?

There are many reasons why your vehicle should be regularly serviced.

Safety First - Regular servicing can help to identify potential problems before they become real ones. Servicing will make sure that essential checks are carried out to critical vehicle components such as your braking system and suspension to make sure that these vital parts don't let you down when you need them most. Regular servicing provides peace of mind that the vehicle is in road-worthy condition.

Just because a car feels okay, it doesn’t automatically mean all is working as well as it should be. As the kilometres clock-up so too does the wear and tear, but because deterioration is often gradual and hidden out of sight, drivers may not see and feel the change. This can lull drivers into a false sense of security, mistakenly believing that nothing major has gone wrong with their vehicle.

Save Money - Failing to service your vehicle each year to save a few dollars really is a false economy. Regular servicing can help to identify issues early on that could later become costly and expensive to rectify. Take engine oil for example, it’s needed to lubricate and protect the moving parts inside your engine. Without it, your engine could seize up costing thousands to repair or replace. All our service schedules include checking the engine oil and, if needed, replacing with fresh oil specifically designed for your car to keep your engine running smoothly.

Regular servicing can also save money at the petrol pump. New oil and air filters make for a smoother running engine and a more fuel efficient car, while addressing issues such as under inflated tyres will improve fuel consumption efficiency.

Furthermore, not servicing your car increases your chances of suffering a breakdown - which is both costly and inconvenient if you subsequently become reliant on hire cars or public transport whilst your vehicle is fixed.

Longevity - Simply put, regularly servicing your car will undoubtedly improve the life span of the vehicle.  Regular servicing is crucial if you are to enjoy many years of trouble-free driving.

Maintain Vehicle Value - The second hand market is always competitive, with buyers expecting more for their money. A car with evidence of regular servicing – or even better a full service history - is likely to attract more potential buyers and a higher selling price.
